Moradok means “heritage” in pali. Our family is no different from other Khmer families, we have lost everything in the war, our loved ones, our house, our memories. The sense of urgency to rebuild our roots has led to the creation of Moradok, as a way to preserve, share and promote our cultural heritage. In the center of Phnom Penh, our atelier "Sala Moradok" is nested in a lovely and quiet garden where our master weavers tie-and-dye silk threads which will become the pidaan sacred textile. "Sala" is a word used in Thailand, Lao and Cambodia to name a large open space, originally in the vicinity of a pagoda, where villagers meet during a celebration or where travellers can stay for the night. At Sala Moradok, sculptors also visit every month to refine their works, control the lacquering and study new models. If you come and visit us, you will be able to see, touch and experience the making of all these handicraft products. The processes of making all our products are shown in images in the "workshops" section of the website.
